The HF10 Therapy Trial

How long will the trial period last?

The trial period is typically between 5 to 7 days (usually no more than 14 days), depending on your response to the therapy and your doctor’s recommendation.

Are there any restrictions after the trial procedure?

Your doctor will tell you what you can and cannot do after the trial procedure. In general, the device and dressings must remain dry to avoid infection. To ensure the leads stay in the right place, you should not lift your arms above your shoulders or lift heavy objects. Please consult your doctor before engaging in any physical activity.

Will I feel anything?

Unlike other spinal cord stimulation systems, HF10 therapy does not create a tingling sensation, known as paresthesia.

How do I know if the device is working?

When the green light on your trial stimulator is flashing, you are receiving therapy.

Can I turn the device OFF if I need to?

You can turn OFF HF10 therapy by pressing the red button on the trial stimulator or the remote control. Turn it ON again by pressing + on the remote control.

Can I drive?

Unlike other spinal cord stimulators, HF10 therapy does not have driving restrictions. However, after surgery, your doctor may advise you to refrain from driving until you have recovered.

How will I sleep?

Unlike other spinal cord stimulators, you can keep your system turned ON while you sleep. You can place the trial stimulator to the front or side of your body depending on your sleeping position.

What should I do if I pull the connection out by accident?

The white OR cables are attached to the trial stimulator, and they may disconnect if pulled or caught. Your local Nevro® representative will guide you through the reconnection process.

How do I charge the stimulator?

The trial stimulator uses special batteries that do not need to be recharged.

Can I take a bath or shower after my implant?

You can bathe and shower as normal once your doctor lets you know it is okay.

Should I lift things?

You should be careful not to overstretch, as this could alter the position of the leads and/or the implantable pulse generator (IPG). Light lifting and gentle bending and twisting are okay. Always consult your doctor before performing strenuous activity.

How do I know the stimulator is working?

The status of your system can be checked at any time with your remote control. Turn the remote control ON. Check the stimulation level indicator lights—you should see green lights. Please see the Remote Control Quick Guide or the Patient Manual for more details.

How often will I need to recharge the IPG?

You should choose a recharging schedule that best fits your individual needs—but it is recommended that you charge your system daily. Charging will usually take 45 minutes, but can vary depending on your individual settings. Most people choose to charge based on a routine that fits their lifestyle, such as when they’re watching TV. The stimulator battery level indicator light on your remote control will light up to indicate when your IPG battery is low and needs recharging.

The IPG is designed to have at least a 10-year battery life.

Should I leave the stimulator on when I sleep?

Can I have an MRI scan with my implant?

Currently, HF10 therapy permits MRI scanning of your head and extremities under certain conditions. If you need more information about compatibility with MRI scans, please refer to the Patient Manual and consult with your doctor.

Can I fly with my stimulator?

If your doctor is okay with you flying, remember to keep your charger and remote control in your carry-on luggage in case you need them.

What happens when I go through airport security?

Airports differ in their screening processes. When you go through security, let them know you have an implanted neurostimulator and they will direct you to the appropriate place. You will have an ID card to show that you have an implanted device, and you may be escorted around the security machine. Occasionally, they may insist that you go through the security machine. If this happens, turn your stimulation OFF using your remote control and go through the security machine. Once on the other side, use your remote control to turn your device ON for the flight.
